sky+ install and all its troubles

27 08 2008

Sky install went ahead on Saturday! Nearly didn’t happen as I (stupidly) turned my phone off the night before so I could get a nice long undisturbed Saturday lie-in. I got that alright, as I was awoken by a knock at the door at 13:30! Managed to leg it downstairs and catch them as they were getting back in their van!

So all good, 45mins later Sky+ installation complete and looking smart.

Though not all good, got back with gf from the weekly shopping at Asda on Monday afternoon. Opened the freezer to start unpacking the shopping – the freezer didn’t seem as cold as it should’ve!! Checked the goods in there, half of it was no longer frozen? Why? Had the freezer packed up? No. Had we left the door unopened? No. Investigated the plug. It had been switched off, and all we could imagine was; when the Sky installers were around, they drilled a hole for the wire from the dish outside to inside the house they must’ve knocked or just forgot to switch the freezer plug socket on again. So we’ve had to cook up a load of chicken and have that, hope it lasts okay until Thursday, where we would’ve had chicken for dinner for 4 nights running! Had to throw out quite a bit of food too. Gf says we will have to write to Mr $ky to let them know of this, oh well.

What a waste of money, just what we need!

Not long got off the phone to Sky. Thanks to their introduce a friend offer we have a shinny new Sky+ box on our way for this Saturday all for free (apart from the silly installation fee).

After moving house from an area with a perfect freeview signal to one so poor that everytime a Pigeon even looked at the aerial we lost signal we thought it was time for an upgrade. Virgin Media would have been good but as well as little Freeview, we also have no access to cable in our new little market town. Don’t have broadband with BT so BT Vision was scratched off so went with good old expensive Sky.

Cons: Having to give up our Unlimited Cineworld memberships (should make my movie reviews fun) so we can afford $ky.
Pros: Potentially getting Setanta Sports (or maybe Sky Sports 1).
